BELLA FIGURA are a London based rock-trio with a difference. Since forming two years ago their sound has developed strongly from their first independently released single, ‘Somebody New’ - which boasts a blues-based guitar riff and sing-along anthem chorus – to their latest work, ‘Forever Lost’ – showing a real sonic journey, taking the listener to the American west coast. Where will their sound take us next?
There is no attempt to replicate the great rock bands of the 60s and 70s, but instead their passion lies in pushing the genre forward. There is no doubt about the presence of screaming guitar solos and roaring vocals, however their unique sound comes from balancing these qualities with softer grooves and heart-felt songs. The lyrics are deeply honest, thought-provoking, poetic and powerfully cathartic, leaving the listener emotionally charged.
The band is led by Justin Gartry, whose dominant stage presence cannot be denied. The towering figure is a two sided character - in one moment a musical monster, and in the next has the sentiment of a gentle giant. Having been gigging in London since 2008, Justin’s career started with The Joker & The Thief, a band that worked closely with The Joe Strummer Foundation. Current side-projects include playing bass with Dark Moon, who have recently recorded their debut album. He has also collaborated with the likes of Jack Penate, Elephant and John J. Presley, and has shared a stage with The Lumineers and Public Service Broadcasting. Here, though, we find the man in his element - with his very own vessel for creativity and expression, along-side two close
The band are embarking on their third independent EP campaign and can look back over a successful sophomore year. Championed by John Kennedy, the band were recently asked to perform live to air on Radio X. Previous headline gigs have seen packed out shows at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen and The Borderline. Other notable live appearances include main-stage slots at Wilderness and Standon Calling, as well as performing at Larmer Tree, 2000 Trees, The Great Escape, Reeperbahn, the Dr. Martens: Stand For Something Tour and the Music Week RADAR Showcase.
Justin has recently embarked on the highly respected Coffee House Tour, covering the width and breadth of the country, playing 25 intimate solo shows in 10 days at various student unions. This proved to really add to the band’s rapidly growing fan-base, which will enable a first full-band UK tour in April 2016 . The final stop will be in London to launch the new EP with two nights at The Black Heart in Camden.
