Fyfe has premiered ‘Love You More’, the second taste of new material from his forthcoming sophomore record (which he recently completed and will be released this summer). Having surpassed 20 million plays on Spotify, sold-out a European tour - including the likes of London’s Oslo and Paris’s La Maroquinerie - and picked up support across radio, Fyfe will next headline Omeara on May 4th. Look out for the album’s first official single in the coming weeks
‘Love You More’ introduces a distinctly more personal return from Fyfe, digging deeper into his upbringing and also the turbulent two years since the release of debut album ‘Control’. Over skittering beats, soulful piano and ever-immaculate production (again steered solely by Paul himself), ‘Love You More’ was based around the “the voice of a parent documenting the changing relationship with a growing child. The conflicting desires to protect, but also to see them flourish. Sometimes the most loving thing is to let go.”
Life, death and the space in between are recurring themes on Fyfe’s forthcoming second album, which follows the loose structure of beginning in a hospital ward and ending at a funeral. Such meditations on joy and loss are no surprise when you consider the backdrop the record was written in: first came the separate and sudden deaths of two young friends, then Fyfe’s grandmother passed away, and very quickly another close family friend (but in the midst of it all, Paul also became an uncle three times). When he began writing songs for a second album, the force of feeling was unstoppable, though what’s emerged - beginning with ‘Love You More’ - is far from mournful: as it progresses through the passage of life into childhood and adolescence, the tone becomes almost celebrative. These experiences didn’t just teach Fyfe about death and despair, they also taught him about what it means to be alive.
