Island
Just a little over a year ago, London 4 piece ISLAND announced themselves with debut EP ‘Girl’. First single ‘Stargazer’ started an industry chain reaction many only dream about from behind bedroom doors. Sitting at close to 2 million Spotify streams, it didn’t so much thrust them into the limelight as it catapulted it squarely on them. After just a handful of shows, the band found themselves in an almost dreamlike state headlining the 800 capacity Scala in Kings Cross in November.
Unsurprisingly, ISLAND pour into the new year as a band on many people’s lips, still unsigned and defying the conventions of any sort of common trajectory.
‘Dreaming Of’, out today, is the 3rd single from the band’s new EP due later this month. Loaded with the arena- baiting atmosphere of a magical inter-band chemistry, and the gigantic hooks we’ve come to expect, it’s the sound of ISLAND coming into maturity, ready to take the baton from groups like Foals and Bombay Bicycle Club with their heady and cerebral take on pop. They headline the1,000 capacity Heaven in May and will continue sure-footed as the leaders in an exciting new crop of young British indie artists who have the nous to place the genre back in the cultural limelight.
