Introducing Lyra and her debut track ‘Rabbit in the Headlights’ which is available to stream online now.
Rabbit in the Headlights is an intensely brooding track, with lush production courtesy of Rupert Christie (Kate Bush, Coldplay, Aurora, Say Lou Lou). This first offering is completed with surging drums and that offset Lyra’s uniquely ethereal - almost whispered- vocal.
Lyra’s lyrical storyline in ‘Rabbit in the Headlights’ is about a rebuke to those who use to suggested she should adopt a different singing style: “I tried to sing differently for so much of my childhood - I even tried singing with a British accent! It made me unhappy trying to be something that I wasn’t” she explains. “Ultimately I learned I couldn’t be anything other than my true self - I wrote this song to help myself and others realise, there’s only one you on this earth - be it”.
Lyra’s musical introduction took place the age of six, singing at her local church. Noticing her enthusiasm for music, her older sister taught her harmonies and songs to perform at family gatherings and special occasions, which almost always resulted in a group sing-along. Music in her veins, Lyra took up drums, including the traditional Irish ‘bodhran’ drum, at aged 6, a signature sound prevalent in her music today.
