The Beach is about impact. It’s never been about what works well musically, it’s about a feeling and where it takes you. Once you’ve been taken there you spend all your time trying to be taken back to that place again. I mean it’s probably about finding the thing that cannot be found. Maybe the answer to the question is always the start of a new question. Although it’s hard to say exactly what the beach is about. It has to be honest. To be honest I still don’t really know definitively how to write a song and I definitely don’t know how to do what’s written above. I don’t think I ever will truly know, and that is important. It can’t be learnt or forced. It’s difficult to explain a feeling to somebody, you can’t talk about it or try to analyse it, you can only jump in head first and let it take you to a place that your imagination can’t.
