25th March, 2015Beans On Toast

Drunk folk singer, barefoot troubadour and cult legend Beans on Toast has been around the block more times than he cares to remember.

With 5 studio albums in his back catalogue, Beans on Toast provokes thought on subjects from Prince Harry to Popcorn, from Full Moons to Fracking, from Wetherspoons to Riots, from Love songs to Drug songs and from current events to getting off your head. Simple songs, with no holds barred honest lyrics and quick wit.

The Beans on Toast live show is an odd and unpredictable experience. A singer, storyteller and guitar player his self-deprecating quality is not something you often see, but it breaks down the barrier between musician and audience, creating a sense of equality.

2014 was undoubtedly the biggest year yet for Beans on Toast as he made it on to the XFM Evening Playlist with digital release ‘Keeping You’, released a special edition vinyl for Record Store Day and performed to over 100,000 people in just one week, opening Frank Turner’s UK stadium tour alongside Flogging Molly back in February.

25th March, 2015Lisa Mitchell

Lisa Mitchell is in the midst of recording her new album, but it’s actually her one-off 2014 single ‘Wah Ha’ that’s getting all the attention. The gently folky, demo-esque song has clocked up more than 260,000 plays on Soundcloud and earned her high-level US exposure via Billboard and a live performance on KCRW’s influential Morning Becomes Eclectic program. And just today she’s unveiled a disembodied yet dance-friendly reworking of the track courtesy of Seekae.

Last December Mitchell announced a three-city tour – presented by M+N along with Yen Magazine – around ‘Wah Ha’, which will showcase an acoustic set with collaborator Tim Harvey (Team Harvey, Spiderbait) at intimate venues. Two of the three dates have already sold out, weeks before the tour begins. That’s quite a way to start the year for the acclaimed songwriter, who won The Australian Music Prize for her 2009 debut Wonder and released her latest album, Bless This Mess, in 2012.
